How Long to Cook Fries in an Air Fryer

Cook frozen fries in an air fryer for about 15 to 20 minutes at 400°F (200°C), shaking the basket once or twice. Fresh-cut fries take 18 to 25 minutes at 375°F (190°C) after soaking and drying. The key to crispy fries in either case is a single layer and a good shake partway through.

Fresh-cut fries375°F / 190°C18-25 minSoak, dry and toss with a little oil first

Thicker cuts and fuller baskets need more time, so check before serving.

How to get crispy fries

For frozen fries:

  1. Add them straight from the freezer in a single layer.
  2. Cook at 400°F, shaking the basket every 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Add a couple of minutes if they’re not golden yet.

For fresh-cut fries:

  1. Soak the cut fries in cold water for 30 minutes to remove starch, then dry them thoroughly.
  2. Toss with a teaspoon of oil so they brown evenly.
  3. Cook at 375°F, shaking a few times, until golden and crisp.

Why fries turn out soggy

Do frozen fries need oil? No. Most are pre-coated, so they crisp without adding oil.

Can I cook a lot of fries at once? Only in a single layer. For bigger batches, cook in rounds or use a larger air fryer with more usable basket space.
